This software allows a user to completely control the look of their PC. Now at version 7, it allows the designer to create skins for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. By ‘skin’ I’m talking about replacing the window frames, buttons, start panel, taskbar... in fact, just about everything you see drawn on the screen which is part of the Windows GUI can be replaced with your own design. In addition to WindowBlinds, Stardock have an application called ‘IconPackager’ which allows a user to replace the icons used by Windows - on the desktop and in Explorer - with a completely new set. The combination of these two applications mean that your computer is truly your own. If you want this functionality in your own Windows application UI, it is possible to add skinning functionality with a simple OCX, using a product called ‘DirectSkin’. Of course, the designs here are not restricted to just those applications.
